This is just a partial list of the well-respected physicians who work in the Neuroscience & Gamma Knife Center. All of our doctors work closely with other medical professionals and departments to create an overall plan to maximize a patient's outcome and quality of life. So, if you have cancer in another part of your body that has moved to the brain, we work in conjunction with the oncology department to see that you get the best care possible with the least amount of stress and travel, most often executing your entire plan of care at CJW Medical Center.

    Dr. Sahni is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is an American College of Surgeons Fellow. He has been published in numerous medical journals and has spoken internationally on neuroscience subjects. After completing his residency at the Medical College of Virginia in 1983, Dr. Sahni served as assistant professor of neurosurgery and director of stereotactic and functional surgery at MCV until 1988. He joined CJW in 1989, where he has served as chief of neurosurgery.

    To become a gamma knife expert,
    Dr. Sahni trained in Sweden, the
    country where it was invented. He
    continues to attend Gamma Knife
    International Conferences.

    Dr. Sahni has performed more than 2,000 procedures on patients with trigeminal neuralgia in over 20 years. His other areas of interest include gamma knife, hemifacial spasm, pituitary tumors and skull-based tumors like acoustic neuroma tumors.

    Dr. Salvant has been treating patients on the Gamma Knife since 2006.
     
    He received his bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University and his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Salvant is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is an American College of Surgeons Fellow. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, International Gamma Knife Society, and Southern Neurological Society.

    He received specialized training in Principles and Practice of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery from the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. He also was trained on the Gamma Knife Perfexion at the Taylor McAdam Bell Neuroscience Center.

    Dr. White is trained in all forms of clinical neurosurgery and is a member of the American Medical Association, the Medical Society of Virginia, Richmond Academy of Medicine, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and American College of Surgeons.

    Dr. White is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is an American College of Surgeons Fellow. He received his bachelor's degree from Holy Cross and his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College.

    Dr. White completed his internship, general surgery residency and neurosurgery residency at The New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1970 to 1972, stationed in Vietnam and at Fort Lee, Virginia.

    Dr. Eichler is the Medical Director of the Johns Radiation Oncology Center, Chairman of the Multidisciplinary Cancer Committee and a member of the Medical Executive Committee. He is Chair of the Communications Committee, a member of the Health Policy Committee and Chair of the Local Coverage Determination (LCD) Workgroup for the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.

    He is past-President of the Mid-Atlantic Society of Radiation Oncology and a member of the American Brachytherapy Society. Dr. Eichler is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and received his MD from the Medical College of Virginia where he completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in radiation oncology. He has completed additional training at the Seattle Prostate Institute, Emory University and the Cleveland Clinic.

    Dr. Penberthy received his bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech and his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He is a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Selected Reserve and served as a flight surgeon and general medical officer.

    He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, junior member.
